Why are we going to bomb Syria?

Because:
It wants to get to the other side.
It's there.
It's got Syrias problems.
We haven't reached our annual quota of screwing-up nations.
Bad gas almost killed Obi Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn.
Obama wants to help the little people (if they're Muslims).
Obama wants to make speeches, but he's got negative ratings on almost all domestic issues.
Obama wants to see how much wanton mayhem it takes before the Norwegian Nobel Committee publicly states it regrets its choice.
Obama wants to see if Congressional Democrats still slavishly support every stupid proposal.

What gets under my skin is that The Obamessiah is justifying his proposal because of the methods that Assad is using - poison gas, etc....
Is it all ok if he uses bullets, bombs, drones, etc?
These people and their damn rules make me ill.
We should go in with hammers and tongs, or we should stay home and not put a single soldier, pilot, OR dollar at risk.

Well, not a bad questionnaire as they go. However... anyway, I have finally made my mind up on that question we disagree about, and here is my (very long) reasoning (?):

Well-written and well-argued, sir Snoop!
But couldn't this be handled by some other country or countries in the region, perhaps some groups that aren't up to their nostrils in military debt? And that have a better record of nation-building and atrocity-stopping?

Technically, there is only one country that could (discounting the Turkish motormouth who could but wouldn't): Israel. Now imagine Israel stepping in... oh boy...

Otherwise, you know how it goes. Once US decides to step back from what is going on, somebody else will decide to come in, and I will be not so sure that this somebody else will take a lot of time before starting to push US around. No, sir, this is the way the world goes around: either you are the top dog or you are being pushed around. This is the point where I dare to disagree with Ron Paul and other like-minded libertarians who dream that circling the wagons and gathering around the fire, while stopping to mind what is going on around is bound to work. Not for long, no way.

I have to add that, besides feeling all these warm sentiments toward Americans I don't really feel good arguing for their sons to die abroad. It is just that the alternative is too ugly to contemplate.
