Does This Excite You?

Does this excite you?

Here's Reverend Estus Washington Pirkle, of New Albany, Mississippi, on the subject of what heaven will be like.
The entire video is worth watching multiple times, but if you're impatient you can skip to the 1:10 mark to learn about your new glorified body. Somehow, I was expecting better things.

The rapturous assemblies at 1:40 remind me of the crowd at Ronald Reagan's funeral, or perhaps Denver's Mile High Stadium during the Democratic Convention last year, but a little less worshipful.

If you ever allow yourself to watch from 2:05 to 3:00, you will watch it again. It's gonna be seared into your brain. You've been warned.

The looks on the congregation's faces says it all, doesn't it?

This isn't a heaven I would want any part of. Plus, it's whiter than a Mormon choir.

As Mark Twain put it, "Heaven for climate; Hell for society."

A fresh coat of Whitening to Little Green Footballs for the link.
I'm posting excerpts from Pirkle's work every weekend. Hit his name on the post labels to see the others.

WS, seriously - serious question? Does this excite me? Really? Truly, a serious question? Normally you have some great info and insights, but this one seems out of left field. Is this a way of buffooning all religious-based folk, even those who uphold free-market views (which along with a merciful view for the downtrodden makes for a wholesome efficient-and-charitable system)??? Cuz this is a most pathetic example of trite, absurd propaganda that only serves to denegrade a Christian-based perspective for life. Railing against extreme examples of *any* systems/paradigms - religious or otherwise - is not much more than resorting to a form of sophistry in promoting one's point (or anti-point in this case). It doesn't get to the heart of what it sounds like you're trying to assail successfully - but an attempt to liken all Christians to this same ignorant, lame portrayal of Heaven and the reason to obey God's Word. Sorry to be so emphatic - but is this what was intended, cuz with me it failed miserably. I too watch the many phony televangelists in that vein, but know they don't represent Truth at all. And though a cute quote by the American bard Twain, as is predictable, it's way off base - since he wouldn't likely be praising our current state of affairs - which is but a dry-run to that infernal paradigm. Cheers, Tom

Tom,
At a relatively early age (sometime around 6th or 7th grade) I was subjected to one of this guy's films on the subject of Hell.
At that time in my life, I didn't understand Christian metaphor or symbolism, much less hyperbole.
It scared the living shit out of me. Just like this type thing is still scaring little kids.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

More Pirkle films to come, as they appear on Youtube.

TWS - you are gonna get a humongous brain cleaning bill in the mail soon for this one. I think I'm programmed now for keeps, though...

It's funny that when people 'humanize God and Heaven' (why, it's over 72000 times bigger than New York!) they diminish the omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience (sp?) that they just got through preaching about.

Throwing in the drawf lady singing at the end also got me thinking... I thought Southern Baptists were against hallucinegic drugs.

Thanks for the response WS (just got back from a business trip) - and I respect your views (who needs Benny Hill when there's Benny Hinn!)... Cheers, Tom
