The Weekly Radley - This will be discussed for decades

So if you’re going to be a pedestrian who mistakenly calls the cops because you see a black man trying to pry open the jammed door to his own home, and if you’re going to be the responding cop who then questions said black man for possibly burglarizing his own home, then arrests said black man for subsequently taking offense and getting uppity with you, both of you should probably make sure said black man is not Henry Louis Gates, the famed Harvard professor of African-American Studies.

Oh dear heavens. What a travesty.

It's hard to pick sides without having been there, and I have a very low opinion of the police.

But perhaps my opinion of academics is even lower. :o)

Mr. Gates attitude was obviously not one of gratitude for the cops coming to his home and making sure it wasn't being burglarized. It is interesting that the article never mentions the ethnicity of the officer involved.

Also curious to know the ethnicity of the good samaritan reporting the "crime." Hmm, seems to me this could be a charge of racial profiling leveled at the good samaritan as well as the cops. Seriously, what would the good professor have said if his home was being burglarized by two black men and no one reported it out of fear of the race card?
