I don't have enough clutter in my blogroll, so I've added one more distraction over to your right.
I've made a little countdown widget based on Al Gore's statement that THE ENTIRE POLAR ICE CAP WILL BE GONE IN FIVE YEARS (unless we give Gore and the Kleiner/Perkins venture capital firm a whole lot of money).
The countdown timer I chose doesn't go higher than a thousand days, so just add a "1" to the front end of the days remaining until the poles are ice free.
He made the statement during the week of December 13, 2008.
I'll be generous, and assume that he said it on New Year's Eve 2008.
The ice caps now have a little more than four years to melt.

WS -- I note that to sneer at Gore you've removed your Obama-warmongering meter. Is this a sign of your shifting priorities in terms of public outrage?
Does the widget site only allow for one widget meter at a time?
Or does some deeper meaning lurk within?
Inquiring minds want to know.
doctor,
Look further down the blogroll.
I moved the Warlord Meter further down shortly after he won the Nobel.
The Cognitive Dissonance was overwhelming for too many readers.
P.S. - It's not a sneer at Gore if one is merely attracting attention to his prophecies. Unless, of course, the icecaps are intact in 2013.
One other thing....Do you remember some other crazed speculation about the Northwest Passage being ice-free, and clear for navigation purposes by the end of 2009?
I didn't do a widget, but wish I had. See the last few paragraphs:

Gosh...my bad.
Is my face red (although there are some who would argue red is my natural hue).
Re: the Northwest Passage post: if you start coming to Sunday School again you can witness me put a $10 bill in the little box we pass around each week. Or do you want that $10 in a non-fiat currency?
At the end of the day, what Al Gore says or does not say is not important.
Sure, he's done a great job with popularising the issue and raising the public profile of global warming but...that's not how an educated person should get their science information.
You should no more trust Al Gore than you should trust Glenn Beck.
Get your science from science sources.
How difficult can it be?
Taking pot shots at Al Gore doesn't change reality. Learn to recognise spin when you see it. Dig a little deeper and check your sources.
Nobody's treating Al Gore
like an oracle or prophet so why should you?
Want to know what's really happening in the Arctic?
Then find out for yourself.
Go straight to the source.
Ask the professionals.
Grr
Previous post was mine.
Cedric - I never would have guessed! (grin)
Lol.
:)
Doctor,
I would prefer that you bring some percentage of a gold ingot, but barring that, Federal Fiat Reserve Notes are acceptable.
Unless, of course, you want to double-up and bet on the Cowboys making the playoffs (I'm not going to make nearly as much $$$ on that proposition this year. After year 13, people are catching on.)
Cedric,
All of the posts are sent to my email address. When ANONYMOUS logged on and said "get yer science from science sources" (even if you have to file a FOIA request to do it), I knew it was you.
Please, please, please....never change.
One other thing about the widgets....
During the recent unpleasantness in Copenhagen, there was a lot of scare-mongering about how WE ONLY HAVE 50 DAYS TO ACT BEFORE CLIMATECHANGE IS IRREVERSIBLE.
Nobody even listened. The tactic has lost its Mojo.
But, if time permits, I will make another countdown widget.
"...get yer science from science sources" (even if you have to file a FOIA request to do it)..."
You don't need any FOIA requests.
There is a vast amount of data out there.
No one organisation or group or individual has a monopoly on it all.
No one organization can censor it all or control it all.
There's simply too much of it.
There is no central clearing house under lock and key guarding "the truth" from the public.
If somebody, for whatever reason, doesn't want to share their data set then the easiest thing is to go elsewhere.
(shrug)
For example there's the AAAS.
(An obscure bunch of radicals that have been trying to sekritly destroy American freedoms since 1848)
Plus as an added bonus, Potholer54 has just done a Part Two on the hacked emails "scandal".
(Ah, fresh meat!)
Needless to say, he has not been kind.
For context, watch the first part here and then move on to the new second part here.
Enjoy.
Reminds me of the religion (and no offense to anyone who may be of this ilk) The Jehovah's Witnesses. They have had several 'serious' predictions that the end o the world was occurring... first in 1914. OK, so that one didn't take.
But in 1925, they were told the REAL end days were coming. So, naturally, people sold their property and dissolved their marriages (what??) and went to an assigned place to await for a heavenly city to descend. This prediction would kick the 1914's predictions' ass!
OK - so the Heavenly City didn't appear there either.
Yet, the religion survived under the assumption that the greed for money and lust for power of their religions founders were still well founded since the benevolent and wise leaders had the best interests of the flock behind their failed predictions and dictates.
The Watchtower Organzation is still knocking on doors. This religion won't die as easily either.
