Let them eat Pie

In a recent interview with Barbara Walters, Michelle Obama issued the following papal dispensation:

“Don’t worry about how much you eat. Just enjoy it,” she said. “This is the time. Have pie.”

Enjoy your pie, everybody !   Michelle says it is ok !  Have a great Thanksgiving !

Is it okay to have a smoke after the pie? Wonder if she has made the mister switch to those electronic cigarettes.

I see my H8R is functioning properly.

My first thought was, "That's why your butt is so damned big." Sure enough several of the article commenters said the same thing.

Then I thought of my oft quoted, "We are almost unique n the world for obesity associated with poverty."

I always feel conscious about my body composition around the holidays, and I think that's a healthy attitude. The guilt free attitude of "it only comes once a year" tends to repreat itself the other 364 days of the year.

When I was single, I used to feed the homeless at the Salvation Army every Thanksgiving. It is also around my birthday, so this was a gift I gave myself. The tradition ended when loads of wealthy people began volunteering to assuage their rich-guilt. One year I had invited three young Air Force airmen to join me, and I had to smooth talk the director to get us into the serving line. The next year, the volunteer list was filled by late September. After that I got married, so my traditions were forever altered.

Yes, MO gets a dispensation and grants it to all.

BO gets one for smoking.

St. Albert gets it for CO2 production.

Rangel, Geithner, Daschel, etc get it for taxes while Wesley Snipes is about to go to jail for it.

The newly elected mayor of Oakland just got The Boot for unpaid parking tickets on her Prius. The boot was gone after a few phone calls.

I agree with special dispensation. Judgment is given to men that they might use it. Leaders should always be brave about recognizing when the broad brush of power is too wide. But when it's traded in a quid pro quo or enables hypocrisy, that's horrendous.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to you and Mrs. WS and to Dr. Ralph and his family. And Cedric, you can join us in thanks too even though your country doesn't usually celebrate, except on Norfolk Island. HTG to all.

Norfolk Island?
(Hmm, had to look that tradition up.)
HTG to you and yours too.

Of course, Thanksgiving is not strictly an Australian tradition but...what IS our tradition is stealing traditions from other cultures as a sly excuse for a party or piss-up!

So here in Seoul, I grabbed an American ex-pat who was feeling homesick and we both went out to a foreign restaurant that caters to the American Military Base crowd nearby and we had turkey with all the trimmings.
Outrageously expensive but very well worth it.
The bird died for a good cause.
