Miss AK, DE, MA, NC all sounded good to me. It's the quality of their confidence and control of their emotions that made them winning responses.
But yes, the vast majority of them are mindless twits, including Miss Science Geek. What were the judges in KY and IN thinking? What were the Miss USA judges thinking?
In the girls' defense, they might not know the questions in advance, and a glib response while maintaining poise is more difficult than people realize.
The phrasing of the question worked to the disadvantage of the Christians. Ask the same girls whether Intelligent Design should be taught in school. This was clearly a softball for the lefties.
Ask the same girls whether they think parents should have the right to choose between evolution and creationism for their kids, and you'd have a more fair test of their character.

BTW, I believe evolution should be taught in schools as the leading but imperfect scientific theory on the origin and development of species. That theory does not preclude a divine origin of the universe and the deliberate design of a habitat and plan for intelligent humans. I believe that God created existence within which evolution works, and that God is a necessary and sufficient condition for life to have purpose and meaning. I believe my life has purpose and meaning, therefore God exists. If God did not exist, the universe would be completely indifferent to our existence and we, too, should be indifferent about our own existence, rendering our lives meaningless and purposeless. Morality would have no basis. Surviving and thriving would be as inconsequential as a coronal mass ejection, a comet slamming into Jupiter, an emission of gamma rays from a magnetar, or a frigid particle of matter remaining almost motionless in a vast sea of interstellar space. Our thoughts and actions would merely be a series of electrochemical reactions to endogenous equilibrating physical systems and exogenous stimulus. Winning the Miss USA pageant wouldnt mean anything in a universe formed by the random confluence of matter and energy.
God exists, therefore the Miss USA pageant has meaning and purpose.
