It is unfortunate in Texas that most charter schools are assumed to be for 'at risk' students, such as Winfree Academy, and most of the press they get is of their problems. My kids go to a charter school that is at the other end of the spectrum, mostly kids who were excelling beyond their peers and public school couldn't accommodate them. A school that by Texas state standards is exemplary, yet the state will only provide public charter schools with 60% of the state funding that 'regular' public schools get.

Yeah, and even within the "regular" public schools, there's a safety hatch for "gifted and talented" or for Honors or some other Choice mechanism.
Otherwise, you'd see a massive exodus.

I really don't understand why more people don't understand that the lack of choice is driving the poor school quality.
