John Kerry - doing his part to eliminate government waste

A couple of years ago, I started something called The Whitey Awards.  Hit the post tab below for a list of previous nominees and winners.
The idea behind the Whiteys was to recognize those who have done the most to eliminate government waste.  The best way to eliminate government waste, of course, is to avoid paying taxes.  They can't waste what you don't give them.
Previous nominees include Tim Geithner, Tom Daschle, and the great host of people who tried and failed to make it into Obama's cabinet.
Here's a new one, noted by The Jammie Wearing Fool, who points us to a piece in The Boston Herald:

Sen. John Kerry, who has repeatedly voted to raise taxes while in Congress, dodged a whopping six-figure state tax bill on his new multimillion-dollar yacht by mooring her in Newport, R.I.

Isabel - Kerry’s luxe, 76-foot New Zealand-built Friendship sloop with an Edwardian-style, glossy varnished teak interior, two VIP main cabins and a pilothouse fitted with a wet bar and cold wine storage - was designed by Rhode Island boat designer Ted Fontaine.

But instead of berthing the vessel in Nantucket, where the senator summers with the missus, Teresa Heinz, Isabel’s hailing port is listed as “Newport” on her stern.

Could the reason be that the Ocean State repealed its Boat Sales and Use Tax back in 1993, making the tiny state to the south a haven - like the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and Nassau - for tax-skirting luxury yacht owners?

Cash-strapped Massachusetts still collects a 6.25 percent sales tax and an annual excise tax on yachts. Sources say Isabel sold for something in the neighborhood of $7 million, meaning Kerry saved approximately $437,500 in sales tax and an annual excise tax of about $70,000.
John Kerry has prevented the government from wasting more than $500,000.00, simply by not paying any taxes on his luxury yacht.
Congratulations, sir !
You win a Whitey !

Hold the presses.

While Kerry is a great nominee for this award, there is a candidate who leaves him in the dust.

Walter Shorenstein, a San Francisco real estate magnate died this year at the age of 95.

Shorenstein was a major democrat contributor and fundraiser for decades, advising Johnson, Carter, and Clinton. He was a maor player in brininging the DNC convention to San Francisco. He started a Press, Politics, and Public Policy Institute at Harvard to train budding leftists in the fine art of propaganda to ease the transition to more government.

He founded an Asia-Pacific (er, China) Institute at Stanford, and an East Asia (er, China) Institute at Berkeley.

By dying in 2010 instead of 2011, he avoided about half a billion dollars in death taxes. He made no provision in his will to donate any money to address the federal budget deficit. Large sums will, I'm sure, find their way into DNC coffers for the election.
