It's happening again.
It's Groundhog Day.
Can someone explain to me, using little-bitty words that I can understand, why it is that so many people near the top of the Obama administration don't believe they should have to pay taxes? Why do they all want to spend your money instead of their own?
(Ahemm.....) Could it be that they don't believe their own rhetoric? Maybe way down deep, they believe that they're the best judge of how their paycheck should be spent?
This time it's Rahm Emmanuel. He's been living at the home of a lobbyist, and not paying taxes on the "imputed income" from that arrangement.
(The lobbyist has Rahm Emmanuel listed as a client, along with Emmanuel's Mommy Party Congressional Campaign Committee. That's a secondary problem that everyone is too busy to worry about.)
This is becoming tiresome. When I created The Whitey Award for "Eliminating Government Waste By Not Giving Government Any Money", I had no idea that I'd need a playoff system.
So Rahm Emmanuel is now a nominee.
Remember when, just 3 weeks ago, candidates for this award could demonstrate some false modesty and say "Oh, it's an honor just to be nominated...." ???? Remember that innocent era?
Well, it's not that way any more. It's not an honor for anybody if we have to nominate everybody.

Are you telling me that my friend, who happens to sell me stuff for my business, has let me fly on his Gulfstream V at my whim, and has supplied me with a small townhouse in Central Park West - AND has allowed me use of his driver and Maybach for the past five years... THAT'S INCOME?!?! Oh crap.
by the way... where's Dr. Rahm - er Ralph?
If you go over to Dr. Ralph's place, you'll see that he's complaining about me hitting only "one note" during the stimulus bailout.
I think he's decided to lay back until I diversify my topics.
Or maybe he's feeling an appropriate sense of shame because of this abortion.
He'll pop up before long.
Sorry -- I've been a little preoccupied watching my employer's stock price spiral down the toilet.
I recall predicting at one point Rahm would be an early casualty of the Obama administration. Silly me: I thought it would be because of his abrasive outspokeness. At the time you confessed a grudging admiration. I guess it's possible to disagree and both be wrong.
I'll repeat -- gone within a year.
Doctor,
What I liked most about Emmanuel was was his advocacy of a "Flat Tax".
I think I'm still somewhere in the Google top 5 results on - Rahm Emmanuel Flat Tax - for what that's worth. I also have a grudging admiration for anyone who will mail someone a dead fish.
I bet he sticks around longer than a year. His tax problems are just as bad as any of those other characters', but you don't read or hear as much about them, do you?
I think everybody is absolutely terrified of him.
WS - I dunno about Rahm. As the saying goes, friends come and go but enemies accumulate.
Collecting enemies can be an expensive hobby.
