Why We Fight !!!
Many are wondering why we would consider going to war in Syria.
Ok, it won't be a declared war, so let's take it down a notch.
Many are wondering why we would do a limited police action in Syria.
Ok, it won't be a limited police action. There will be no "boots on the ground", so let's take it down a notch.
Many are wondering why we would spend money and risk aviators by bombing Assad's people in Syria.
Ok, we don't have a freakin' clue who we'll be bombing. We're America, dammit, and we won't stand idly by while Assad's people execute their POW's.
Oh. Wait a minute. The rebels are executing the POW's.
Well....we've spent a lot of money re-stocking our war arsenal, and there's no money in just letting the stuff sit there. Economies are based on consumption.
I once believed that we should get involved in Iraq because Saddam gassed 90,000 Kurds.
I was wrong.
Perhaps there should be some sort of humanitarian intervention, but it shouldn't come from us.
We just aren't very good at it.

Economic Freedom In 60 Seconds
I've been working all day, helping the guys at my largest warehouse get some rush orders moving out to one of the world's largest retailers.
The drivers of these "hot-shot" vans are, without exception so far, immigrants. They're from The Ukraine, Turkey, the former Yugoslavia, Albania and Russia (so far). All of them are in the process of buying their own van, if they haven't so far. The ones I've asked have said that they want to start their own trucking companies. The only exceptions are the older guys, and they want to help their sons start trucking companies.
I don't think people are that ambitious when they move to, say, Cuba. Or even Sweden, which has a relatively high level of freedom. People come to the USA to make stuff happen.
Here's something from the Charles Koch Foundation called "Economic Freedom In 60 Seconds". I love it, love it, love it. If you get a chance, watch it on Youtube and read the comments. It has the Statists in a mad, frothing rage. You know, "How can the Koch brothers say these things when 25% of Americans are in the lowest quartile, and only one American out of a hundred gets to be in the Top One Percent, and blah blah blah". But not a word to contradict the video.
Enjoy.

I need some help finding an Al Gore video
I need some help finding an Al Gore video.
Back in December of 2008, The Goracle claimed that the polar ice caps will probably be gone in five years. It was captured on video.
I had the video posted here.
Anthony Watts, of Watts Up With That, had the video posted here.
The Telegraph covered it here.....
Steve Goddard copied it here:
The only video I've seen was recorded from German television. We can all have a good time ridiculing this scam artist based on the online accounts of his prediction, but it's better to have video.
Honest to God, I don't think most of his constitutents can read very well.
Video is better.
If you can find it, please email a link to dapfortworth@aol.com I'll mail you a dachshund in return.

Speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, Mr Gore said new computer modelling suggests there is a 75 per cent chance of the entire polar ice cap melting during the summertime by 2014.
Steve Goddard copied it here:
Mr Gore, speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, stated the latest research showed that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years. And you can go to the Center For Environmental Journalism where they call him out on it. They, too, had the video, but it has since disappeared.
In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: “These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.”

Go Back To F***ing Sleep
Outstanding actor and economic dunce Samuel L. Jackson recently produced this video, charmingly titled "Wake The F*** Up".
It's for voters who think that we've all been doing dandy for the last four years, that we're fighting undeclared wars in fewer countries than we were four years ago, and that teen minority unemployment isn't at 50%, and that Barack Obama didn't flunk Economics 101 at Occidental College. If those voters don't "Wake The F*** Up", Obama won't be elected.
Here goes:
Reason magazine, the greatest periodical currently on the newsstands, has produced an equally charming response. Here's their rebuttal to Samuel L. Jackson:

GSA Scandal vs. Stimulus Non-Scandal
The Democrats and Republicans are working themselves into a bipartisan snit over who can express the most outrage over some videos and convention expenses.
The General Services Administration spent about 800K on a mega-convention in Vegas. There was a $75,000.00 "team-building" exercise that involved building bicycles. Lots of great food. Good times, good times.
Here's Wikipedia, not always the best source, but usually the most concise:
On April 2, 2012, Martha Johnson, chief of the GSA, resigned after a report by the inspector general identified improper payments for a Public Buildings Service (PBS) Western Regions training conference in Las Vegas. Before turning in her own resignation, Johnson fired two other GSA senior executives, PBS head Robert Peck and senior advisor Stephen Leeds. Four PBS Regional Commissioners, who had been responsible for planning the conference, were placed on administrative leave. The conference was the most recent in a series of similar lavish conferences organized by GSA's Public Buildings Service. In previous years, PBS also held conferences in New Orleans, Oklahoma City, San Antonio and Lake Tahoe, where the Caesars hotel provided lakefront views, a lagoon-style indoor swimming pool and a 24-hour casino. U.S. Representative John Mica, chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, called for a congressional investigation into the misuse of federal money by GSA. Mica indicated “The Las Vegas fiasco is just the tip of the iceberg,”
On April 5, 2012, a video was distributed by the House committee on Oversight and Government Reform after being uncovered through the Inspector General investigation. The video included a clip of a spoof video produced by GSA Public Buildings Service (PBS) employees and submitted as part of a contest during the controversial PBS Western Regions Conference. In the video, PBS employee Hank Terlaje jokingly brags about excessive government spending in GSA's Public Buildings Service in a parody of Travie McCoy & Bruno Mars’ “I Wanna Be a Billionaire.” Terlaje raps that if he were PBS Commissioner, he will never "never be under OIG investigation," would be "rollin' on 20s in my GOV," and "would buy everything your field office can’t afford." At the end of the video, uncovered by the GSA IG, it cuts to a clip from the actual PBS Western Regions Conference, in which the video was played at the conference's "Capstone Dinner Event." Following the playing of the video, Hank Terlaje received a standing ovation and applause from the crowd of PBS employees, and PBS Regional Commissioner Jeff Neely joined Terlaje on stage and exclaimed "Hank that was fun, that was amazing. I'm glad you won." PBS Deputy Commissioner David Foley went on to present Terlaje with an award as honorary PBS Commissioner for the day, and Foley joked that the hotel would like to talk to Terlaje about paying for the party that was held in the commissioner's suite during the previous night. Foley also joked about having to respond to congressional oversight and the Obama administration’s efforts to control executive pay.
Here are some of the video efforts of the GSA employees. These guys do have some talent:
So why the uproar? These people were given money to spend, and they spent the money.
They pumped money into the economy. In the words of The Teleprompter Jesus, the spending was "timely, temporary, and targeted".
Here's a list of what some cynics have called the 100 Worst Stimulus Projects. They include Monkeys On Marijuana studies, attempts to create Joke Machines, African Genital Washing programs and other methods of pumping money into the economy.
There is little or no difference between the parties of the GSA and the Stimulus programs of the last few years. Both efforts got the job done, and rewarded the proper constituents.
We should end the political grandstanding over the GSA conventions and videos. This is the type of spending that pulled us back from the brink during the recent financial crisis.
Be grateful. And get back to work. There are a lot of people in line waiting to spend some stimulus.
Happy Day After Tax Day !!!

Government Explained
This will take up nine precious minutes of your life, but it is worth the sacrifice.
We've lost track of the idea that Obama, Boehner and Company are our employees.

The Atlas Shrugged/Bush/Obama Reality Mashup
You've still got time to see it !!! (The movie, I mean. The actors aren't great, but they're better than the cast of the D.C. Reality Show.)

Whatever happened to the anti-war movement?
And from David Boaz:
In October 2007, Obama proclaimed, “I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank.” Speaking of Iraq in February 2008, candidate Barack Obama said, “I opposed this war in 2002. I will bring this war to an end in 2009. It is time to bring our troops home.” The following month, under fire from Hillary Clinton, he reiterated, “I was opposed to this war in 2002….I have been against it in 2002, 2003, 2004, 5, 6, 7, 8 and I will bring this war to an end in 2009. So don’t be confused.”
Indeed, in his famous “the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow” speech on the night he clinched the Democratic nomination, he also proclaimed, “I am absolutely certain that generations from now we will be able to look back and tell our children that . . . this was the moment when we ended a war.”
Today, however, he has tripled President Bush’s troop levels in Afghanistan, and we have been fighting there for more than nine years. The Pentagon has declared “the official end to Operation Iraqi Freedom and combat operations by United States forces in Iraq,” but we still have 50,000 troops there, hardly what Senator Obama promised.
Yeah, and we've got 9 more months to go in 2011. Who will bomb next, Iran or Pakistan? I'm voting Pakistan.

Here's Reason TV on yesterday's Glenn Beck rally:
Beck occasionally flirts with small "l" libertarianism. Some people think this is scary. I'd rather have him inside our tent and pissing out, than outside our tent and pissing in.

Good Night, Sleep Tight, and don't let The Bed Bugs Bite ! !
The law of unintended consequences is back!
MYFOXNY.COM - The AMC Empire 25 movie theater complex in the Times Square area shut its doors Tuesday night to deal with a bed bug problem.
AMC said it has been testing and treating its theaters after getting complaints from some patrons about bed beg bites.
The company said it inspected the Empire 25 Tuesday and found bed bugs in an auditorium that had previously tested negative.
Here's an email sent out to the CNN employees working in the Time Warner Center:
August 13, 2010
To: TBS, Inc. Employees

The Time Warner Center Facilities Department advises that bed bugs have been detected in Time Warner Center. This determination was made after testing was conducted on several floors of the building. In response, Time Warner Facilities is working with pest control providers to address the issue in an environmentally safe manner, and during non-working hours...
There's only one effective, efficient way to get rid of bedbugs. That would be DDT.
Our government banned DDT in 1972.
"To only a few chemicals does man owe as great a debt as to DDT... In little more than two decades, DDT has prevented 500 million human deaths, due to malaria, that otherwise would have been inevitable."
- National Academy of Sciences
I'm sure that our government knows best. But in the meantime, if you see Wolf Blitzer scratching his privates on camera, you now know the reason why. CNN can't spray their building with DDT, which, if used properly, is ok to drink in small quantities. (There used to be a cocktail called the Mickey Slim - Gin & a pinch of DDT.)
If you see Larry King scratching his privates on camera, it's because he has grown old and forgetful after all those years of throwing softballs to Democrats.
If you see Anderson Cooper touching himself on camera, it's because he thinks there's nothing like the feel of Anderson Cooper.
If Candy Crowley starts scratching herself on camera.....aww....never mind. I'm not going there.
Sorry for the digression. I'm really enjoying the idea of The Castro News Network having a bed bug breakout. I apologize.
Here are the folks from Reason magazine on the DDT scare campaign:
Can we find a volunteer to sneak bed bugs into the EPA headquarters?
MYFOXNY.COM - The AMC Empire 25 movie theater complex in the Times Square area shut its doors Tuesday night to deal with a bed bug problem.
AMC said it has been testing and treating its theaters after getting complaints from some patrons about bed beg bites.
The company said it inspected the Empire 25 Tuesday and found bed bugs in an auditorium that had previously tested negative.
Here's an email sent out to the CNN employees working in the Time Warner Center:

The Roger Federer Trick Shot, frame by frame
Amazing viral video of Roger Federer playing William Tell.
Here's a slow motion someone did of the shot, from someone who isn't amazed.

Broken Windows - The Video
Here's the final word on Bastiat's "Broken Windows" fallacy.
It doesn't matter if it is Cash For Clunkers, the new Cowboys Stadium, or Obama's Porkulus plan - we're all better off when you can spend your money the way you want to spend it.

I screwed up
I've screwed up.
A couple of posts ago, I linked a video of Shirley Sherrod, an African-American employee of the Department Of Agriculture, speaking to an NAACP gathering.
I usually don't worry about taking quotes out of context. That's why they're called quotes. By their very definition, they're out of context. But in this case, Shirley Sherrod was explaining how she overcame anti-white bias. The latter half of her story, the redemptive part, is not included in the video clip that I posted.
The video, by not including the complete story, gives the wrong impression of Shirley Sherrod and the point that she was trying to make at the NAACP gathering.
Talk radio has been pretty lively this morning, pointing out how Sherrod's audience was apparently delighted in her power over the white farmer, the Department of Agriculture shouldn't have forced her to resign, the White House shouldn't have pressured the Department of Kickpacks to force her to resign, Andrew Breitbart should have checked out the context before releasing the video, and on and on and on.
But enough about them. I screwed up by posting the video. (And my post and commentary has already been linked by a couple of Big Deal blogs in Europe, BTW.)
It's atonement time.
I don't think Shirley Sherrod is going to put her mailing address online any time soon.
I ain't about to write a "I'm sorry" check to the Department Of Agriculture.
I might write a check to the NAACP, along with some kind of apology letter.
I'm open to suggestions.
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa

Repealing Obamacare
1. Republicans will never, ever repeal Obamacare. The fix is in.
2. We haven't had a Free Market in healthcare for a long, long time. I don't think we'd recognize it if we saw it. If I get sick, I think someone else needs to pay the bill.
3. All that having been said, this is a good video.

Al Gore and the masseuse - The Taiwanese video ! ! !
If you get your news from the mainstream media, you might not be aware that Saint Albert, The Goracle of Music City, Tennessee, has finally been accused of sexually assaulting someone who is not in the manufacturing or transportation industry.
The story the alleged victim told the police goes something like this:
Saint Albert calls a massage service to send someone to his hotel room.
The masseuse arrives, starts doing her thing, but she fails to properly massage Saint Albert's ego or other assets.
Saint Albert forces the masseuse onto a bed. She calls him a "crazed sex poodle".
Who knows what happens next. But the masseuse claims that Al Gore left some of his carbon footprint on her black jeans, much like Bill Clinton left a trail on Monica Lewinsky's blue dress from The Gap.
She puts the black jeans into a ziplock bag, preserving the evidence for possible peer review by trained scientists.
The masseuse tells a friend about the incident. The friend argues against making the story public, since without Saint Albert, the world will surely perish fromGlobal Warming Climate Change.
She takes the story to the police.
Later on, Saint Albert announces his divorce.
If you didn't quite follow all that, here's a visualization from a Taiwanese news agency. Keep an eye out for the poodle.
A fresh coat of Whitening to Jim Treacher for the video.

How to explain the benefits of Free Trade
Here's how to explain the benefits of Free Trade in less than three minutes.
The next time you hear Lou Dobbs or Nancy Pelosi griping about the "unfair advantages" of those pesky Chinese, Japanese, Messicans, or any other minority they don't like, please think of the Bastiat quote that closes this video:
"Through exchange, they are, in fact, compelled to allow us to share in those unfair advantages"
If you still disagree, think of it this way....What is the last item that you purchased because it was on sale for a great price? Did you ever consider NOT purchasing the item because it would be unfair to the retailers who couldn't offer the same low price?
Go here for more good stuff from The Atlas Network.
