Trust me, just hit that link. I'll be here when you get back.
(As long as you do it within 24 months, or to be exact, within 630 days, or 15,120 hours of December 10th, 2014.) We'll all be past the tipping point after that.
If we've passed that horrific date (December of 2016) without taking significant action on Climate Change, we will have passed yet another Tipping Point.
It will be too late to recycle. It will be too late to stop flying, or to continue sorting through our garbage like raccoons. It will be waaaay to late to send Al Gore's Kleiner-Perkins Investment Group any money for carbon offsets.
It will be too late to begin stumbling around in the dark all night like a pack of aboriginal tribesmen just recently down from the trees.
By December something of 2016, it will be too late to tax the carbon emitters who have made your world an unimaginable paradise (if your grandparents could see you now).
It will be too late to make governments more powerful.
I hope you've hit that link by now....
Have you had your giggle? (I love the sound that Tipping Point deadlines make when we go flying past them.)
The climate prediction business (and it's nothing but a business) is much like all the predictions for the return of Christ. You can be wrong all you want, then just re-arrange the scriptures, come up with a new date, and still not lose very many followers. And if you drop out altogether, the business will continue without you.
Sometime after December 2016, the proprietors of the 100 Months And Counting website will look around at the ice caps, the snow, and the rest of the typical wintertime weather, and they'll shut down their Tipping Point Apocalypse website.
Then they'll move on to the next gimmick and the next marketing/scaremongering stunt, never doubting the righteousness of their cause. There's a sucker born every minute.
I went to a local Community College Thursday night to hear Hugh Chauvin participate in a candidate forum. Hugh is running as a Libertarian for Congress in the Texas 6th District.
Hugh did well, of course. He's a Libertarian. His Republican opponent, Joe Barton, was busy in D.C. His Democrat party opponent wasn't able to stay for the entire forum and had to bail halfway through the event.
Then came the candidates for District 33.
OMG.
The Libertarians don't have a candidate running in this new, Gerrymandered district.
The only Republican running is a pleasant enough chap, but he told the audience that the president he most admired was FDR. (In the opinion of many, FDR got us through the Great Depression. In the opinion of others, the best way to prolong a recession is to get the government involved in trying to end the recession. See: Obama, B. or Carter, J. or Roosevelt, FD.)
This was the first time for me to observe Democrat Party candidates in the wild, in their natural academic setting. Their core beliefs, as stated Thursday night, are centered around the following key principles:
1) There is a war on women.
2) If it weren't for the guiding hand of Dear Leader, the Teleprompter Jesus, none of us would survive.
3) The best way to get money into the economy is for government to take it from the wealthy, take a cut off the top for themselves, then give some of the money to favored contributors and constituencies. (There is a competing, less popular, Libertarian theory that says if the wealthy are allowed to keep more of their own money, they'll leave it in banks to earn something called "interest". The only way the bank can pay this "interest" is to loan it to people who are working in the economy. This method allows fewer opportunities for graft and cronyism, and therefore is unacceptable.)
4) The Affordable Care Act will decrease the cost of healthcare, simply because that is the stated goal of the program.
5) The best way to create jobs is through government programs.
6) In a debate or forum setting, it's best not to mention government programs that are bankrupt, ineffective, or failures. This limits the discussion to government programs that have not yet been implemented.
7) Government seldom spends money. Government invests.
8) The solution to our energy woes is through sunshine and algae.
In the late 1970's, I saw the original Alien movie on the big screen. Ditto for Friday The 13th and Halloween. None of those films were as scary as this political event.
We don't have a Libertarian candidate in this race. If I lived there, I'd probably go for Pastor Kyev Tatum (D). I disagree with the guy on a lot of issues, but he had some good things to say about education. The only Republican seemed out of his depth, plus the last thing we need is Republicans who think that more government involvement is the best way to grow the economy. That's an ender.
Sheesh.
First, they came for the KVWN-TV Channel 4 Action News Team, but I did not speak out, because I was not on Ron Burgundy's KVWN-TV Channel 4 Action News Team.
Then they came for Tim Robbins' Channel 2 Action News Team, but I did not speak out, because I was not on Tim Robbins' Channel 2 Action News Team.
And then they came for me.....Well, not really. I just love using that "First they came for the blah blah blah's" quote any time the Statists start another witch hunt.
Here's The Daily Caller, on an attempted purge of "Deniers" (also known as people who own a thermometer and know how to use it) in the weather forecasting industry.
Concerned that too many “deniers” are in the meteorology business, global warming activists this month launched a campaign to recruit local weathermen to hop aboard the alarmism bandwagon and expose those who are not fully convinced that the world is facing man-made doom.
The Forecast the Facts campaign — led by 350.org, the League of Conservation Voters and the Citizen Engagement Lab — is pushing for more of a focus on global warming in weather forecasts, and is highlighting the many meteorologists who do not share their beliefs.
“Our goal is nothing short of changing how the entire profession of meteorology tackles the issue of climate change,” the group explains on their website. “We’ll empower everyday people to make sure meteorologists understand that their viewers are counting on them to get this story right, and that those who continue to shirk their professional responsibility will be held accountable.”
According to the Washington Post, the reason for the campaign can be found in a 2010 George Mason University surveys, which found that 63% of television weathermen think that global warming is a product of natural causes, while 31% believe it is from human activity.
So far, the campaign has identified 55 “deniers” in the meteorologist community and are looking for more. They define “deniers” as “anyone who expressly refutes the overwhelming scientific consensus about climate change: that it is real, largely caused by humans, and already having profound impacts on our world.”
Meteorological McCarthyism at its finest. Hit the link to read the rest.
These guys invented global warming. They just sat around made up some data, and scared the living shit out of everybody with it. Now they can't find it. They are cornered.
They simply made it up. Billions and billions have been spent on this scam.
They made it up. It really is that simple.
If you're not totally sickened yet, go here. Or you can go here. This one won't tell you anything you don't already know, but is a nice summary of the Return Of The Son Of Climategate emails.
Remember when skepticism was seen by most scientists as a virtue and not a vice? If you value Free Inquiry, I defy you to read these articles without crying.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Corpses, cancer patients and diseased lungs: These are some of the images the federal government plans for larger, graphic warning labels that will take up half of each cigarette package.
The images are part of a new campaign announced by the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday to reduce tobacco use, which is responsible for about 443,000 deaths per year.
"It acts as a very public billboard because you all of the sudden are reading something about lung cancer from that pack behind the cash register, whereas before you were just reading 'Marlboro,' " said David Hammond, a health behavior researcher at the University of Waterloo in Canada, who is working with the firm designing the labels with for the FDA.
....Anti-tobacco advocates are applauding the federal campaign and the new warning labels.
"This is going to stop kids from starting to smoke ... and it's going to give smokers a strong incentive to quit smoking," said Patrick Reynolds, the grandson of R.J. Reynolds and executive director of the Foundation for a Smokefree America. Reynolds' father, brother and other relatives died from smoking-related illnesses.
It remains to be seen how well the scare tactics will work.
"I don't think they're going to be a deterrent at all for people who already smoke. Most people start smoking when they're young, and I don't think they're going to think about the effects," said 27-year-old Zak Hoffman, who has been smoking since age 14.
Well, Zak, that's because I'm not the one picking out the pictures. Forget cancer, gum disease, and tongue amputations. Put me in charge of the pictures, and I'll scare the hell out of some smokers.
How about the now-proven link between smoking and economic retardation, communication difficulties, and an inability to speak without prompts?
I got yer frightening graphic images right here. Get the kids out of the room, back away from your computer, and hit this link.
A fresh coat of Whitening to the P.O.W. In California for the heads up on this one.
Are we going to reimburse Congress's GM and Chrysler's competitors?
Is Obama going to set up a slush fund escrow account to pay off Toyota dealers, mechanics, and salesmen because of the harm done to their business, kinda like we're doing for the victims of the BP oil spill? Is Obama going to call Reid and Pelosi into the White House, and tell them how much they're going to set aside for their victims?
I don't think so.
Oh well. You can go here for details. Old people tend to confuse the gas pedal with the brake. Move along, people. Nothing to see here.
Scientists have been forced to withdraw a study on projected sea level rise due to global warming after finding mistakes that undermined the findings.
The study, published in 2009 in Nature Geoscience, one of the top journals in its field, confirmed the conclusions of the 2007 report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). It used data over the last 22,000 years to predict that sea level would rise by between 7cm and 82cm by the end of the century.
In a statement the authors of the paper said: "Since publication of our paper we have become aware of two mistakes which impact the detailed estimation of future sea level rise. This means that we can no longer draw firm conclusions regarding 21st century sea level rise from this study without further work.
One mistake was a miscalculation; the other was not to allow fully for temperature change over the past 2,000 years. Because of these issues we have retracted the paper and will now invest in the further work needed to correct these mistakes."
IT WORKED ! IT WORKED ! HE DID IT ! THE OCEANS HAVE STOPPED RISING ! ! ALL HAIL TO THE OBAMESSIAH ! ! ! !
This is from the (London) Daily Mail, written by David Rose. Don't bother reading any of this. The article, which is extremely well-written, tells us things we already knew, and will only serve to make you angry. I repeat, don't bother reading the article, or my snarky comments accompanying each paragraph. I'm just working the rage out of my system while watching some NFL and filtering some Jim Beam. Here's Mr. Rose:
The bitter winter afflicting much of the Northern Hemisphere is only the start of a global trend towards cooler weather that is likely to last for 20 or 30 years, say some of the world’s most eminent climate scientists.
This....just....cannot....be....so. We're supposed to be boiling by now. We're supposed to reach the "tipping point" any day, aren't we? Hell's Bells, the north pole is supposed to melt by 2013 ! !
Their predictions – based on an analysis of natural cycles in water temperatures in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans – challenge some of the global warming orthodoxy’s most deeply cherished beliefs, such as the claim that the North Pole will be free of ice in summer by 2013.
Please. Stop reading now. I'm going nowhere with this. David Rose, of The Times, and The Whited Sepulchre, of East Funkytown, are wasting valuable time trying to explain why THE SKY IS NOT FALLING. But you're damn right, Santa's Workshop being ice-free is one of global warming orthodoxy's most deeply cherished beliefs. Check out the countdown widget to your right. At the time of this typing, Al Gore has 1,051 days, 5 hours, and 31 minutes to make the ice caps melt. If that doesn't happen, can we not all agree that Al Gore is a con man? I mean, if it had worked out for him in Copenhagen, he could've become the world's first carbon billionaire by requiring you to give him and Kleiner Perkins your money for.....green things and organic crap and perpetual motion machines and stuff.
According to the US National Snow and Ice Data Centre in Colorado, Arctic summer sea ice has increased by 409,000 square miles, or 26 per cent, since 2007 – and even the most committed global warming activists do not dispute this.
If you're having a hard time reading the captions on some of these pictures, lemme help. Starting at the top left, going counter-clockwise, Nebraska is colder than it's been since 1973. Florida, where the orange groves are freezing, is the coldest it's been since 1980. Scotland, since 1995. Amsterdam, since 1993. Hamburg, Germany, since 1963. Siberia, since 2001. Beijing is the coldest it's been since 1970. (My brother-in-law, Sauron, is in Shanghai now, and he says everyone is freezing their rear ends off.)
The scientists’ predictions also undermine the standard climate computer models, which assert that the warming of the Earth since 1900 has been driven solely by man-made greenhouse gas emissions and will continue as long as carbon dioxide levels rise.
Well, those things happen. That's one of the great things about science. You set up a theory, and see if it can be contradicted. In this case, the theory can be contradicted. You start over. No harm, no foul. But in this case, the voices of reason were up against Global Warming Alarmists who believed that Global Warming Deniers should be executed.
They say that their research shows that much of the warming was caused by oceanic cycles when they were in a ‘warm mode’ as opposed to the present ‘cold mode’.
Whoops. Sorry we screwed up, guys. Good thing NASA's James Hanson didn't get his way and put the chief executives of oil companies on trial for high crimes against humanity and nature. Simple mistake. Coulda happened to anybody.
This challenge to the widespread view that the planet is on the brink of an irreversible catastrophe is all the greater because the scientists could never be described as global warming ‘deniers’ or sceptics.
However, both main British political parties continue to insist that the world is facing imminent disaster without drastic cuts in CO2.
I have only one question, a question I've asked in the comment fields of this blog dozens and dozens of times: This imminent disaster we're supposedly facing.....Will it be a cold disaster, or a warm disaster? Please, please, please. For the love of God, pick one and stick with it for more than a decade. In the 1970's, we were going to freeze unless we repented. In the 1990's, Global Warming was going to kill us all. Now, at the end of the 'Noughts, we're back to a thirty year cold snap.
This image of the UK taken from NASA's multi-national Terra satellite on Thursday shows the extent of the freezing weather
Last week, as Britain froze, Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband maintained in a parliamentary answer that the science of global warming was ‘settled’.
Theology is "settled". The doctrine of substitutionary atonement, transubstantiation, the virgin birth, and predestination are all "settled". Science is not settled. "Settled science" is an oxymoron. That's the difference between science and religion. Go here to learn why this dispute is not about science, but about religion.
Among the most prominent of the scientists is Professor Mojib Latif, a leading member of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which has been pushing the issue of man-made global warming on to the international political agenda since it was formed 22 years ago.
I'm just wondering....why is it that Al Gore is still hired and paid huge sums of money to talk about this issue?
Prof Latif, who leads a research team at the renowned Leibniz Institute at Germany’s Kiel University, has developed new methods for measuring ocean temperatures 3,000ft beneath the surface, where the cooling and warming cycles start.
Cooling and warming cycles start 3,000 feet below the surface? All this time, I thought the cycles started in Honda Civics, coal stacks, electric companies, and bovine flatulence.
He and his colleagues predicted the new cooling trend in a paper published in 2008 and warned of it again at an IPCC conference in Geneva last September.
Last night he told The Mail on Sunday: ‘A significant share of the warming we saw from 1980 to 2000 and at earlier periods in the 20th Century was due to these cycles – perhaps as much as 50 per cent.
'They have now gone into reverse, so winters like this one will become much more likely. Summers will also probably be cooler, and all this may well last two decades or longer.
‘The extreme retreats that we have seen in glaciers and sea ice will come to a halt. For the time being, global warming has paused, and there may well be some cooling.’
Bullshit. Summers has it all backwards. For a while during the 1990's, global cooling paused, and we had some warming. Prove me wrong. There are so many ways to look at the data, nobody has a freakin' clue. It's called "the weather", and if anybody could accurately pick what it's gonna do, he could make a fortune.
As Europe, Asia and North America froze last week, conventional wisdom insisted that this was merely a ‘blip’ of no long-term significance.
Though record lows were experienced as far south as Cuba, where the daily maximum on beaches normally used for winter bathing was just 4.5C, the BBC assured viewers that the big chill was merely short-term ‘weather’ that had nothing to do with ‘climate’, which was still warming.
I should've mentioned this earlier. In the Alarmist industry, ALL cooling is mere weather. ALL warming is climate, and a call for action. And money. And power.
The work of Prof Latif and the other scientists refutes that view.....
It goes on and on and on for a while. I'm going to delete a bunch of technical stuff, just in case anyone is still hanging on. I want to get to more of the silly quotes by the Alarmists.
This picture is supposed to represent something significant.
Pictures of the snow in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China, last week show the city is the coldest it has been since 1970
....For example, in 1922, the Washington Post reported that Greenland’s glaciers were fast disappearing, while Arctic seals were ‘finding the water too hot’.
It interviewed a Captain Martin Ingebrigsten, who had been sailing the eastern Arctic for 54 years: ‘He says that he first noted warmer conditions in 1918, and since that time it has gotten steadily warmer.
'Where formerly great masses of ice were found, there are now moraines, accumulations of earth and stones. At many points where glaciers formerly extended into the sea they have entirely disappeared.’
As a result, the shoals of fish that used to live in these waters had vanished, while the sea ice beyond the north coast of Spitsbergen in the Arctic Ocean had melted.
Warm Gulf Stream water was still detectable within a few hundred miles of the Pole. In contrast, Prof Tsonis said, last week 56 per cent of the surface of the United States was covered by snow.
‘That hasn’t happened for several decades,’ he pointed out. ‘It just isn’t true to say this is a blip. We can expect colder winters for quite a while.’
He recalled that towards the end of the last cold mode, the world’s media were preoccupied by fears of freezing.
For example, in 1974, a Time magazine cover story predicted ‘Another Ice Age’, saying: ‘Man may be somewhat responsible – as a result of farming and fuel burning [which is] blocking more and more sunlight from reaching and heating the Earth.’
....According to Prof Gray, these distort the way the atmosphere works. ‘Most of the rise in temperature from the Seventies to the Nineties was natural,’ he said. ‘Very little was down to CO2 – in my view, as little as five to ten per cent.’ But last week, die-hard warming advocates were refusing to admit that MDOs were having any impact. In March 2000, Dr David Viner, then a member of the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit, the body now being investigated over the notorious ‘Warmergate’ leaked emails, said that within a few years snowfall would become ‘a very rare and exciting event’ in Britain, and that ‘children just aren’t going to know what snow is’.
Now the head of a British Council programme with an annual £10 million budget that raises awareness of global warming among young people abroad, Dr Viner last week said he still stood by that prediction: ‘We’ve had three weeks of relatively cold weather, and that doesn’t change anything. 'This winter is just a little cooler than average, and I still think that snow will become an increasingly rare event.’
The longer the cold spell lasts, the harder it may be to persuade the public of that assertion.
Picture of David Viner freezing his ass off in the snow came from here.
My need brought it forth, like a burning bush in the wilderness. I got the last copy that Border's Books had on the shelf. Amazon.com (see link above) is temporarily out of stock. One of the authors, Dr. Richard North, is co-blogger of the EU Referendum blog to your right. He's a retired food safety consultant, and is freakin' brilliant.
Remember when all your friends and relatives were dying from Mad Cow Disease? That's funny....I don't either.
Remember when the computers all went nuts on New Year's Eve of the new millenium because of the date change and the electrical grid shut down and all the airliners crashed into the oceans? You don't remember that happening during Y2K? I don't either.
How about all the kids in your neighborhood who were subjected to Satanic Ritual Abuse? I know that my streets aren't full of them.
So how are we supposed to act when Saint Albert, The Goracle of Music City, stands atop the mountain and threatens to bring us darkness at noonday and fill the moon with blood and give Waco, Texas, some beachfront property unless the government contributes to his Kleiner Perkins /Al Gore pension fund? (Counting Cats, I gave you the link....)
Now that this book has entered the world, we have no excuse. We are obliged to laugh.
This book lists about two dozen of our Chicken Little moments, what caused them, how the media, lobbyists, and governments reacted, and the embarrased silence that followed their exposure. I've just recently started it, and wanted to help these guys out as much as possible. Here's a link to the only review written on the American Amazon site so far.
You can't imagine what I went through in China, trying to avoid Asian Bird Flu.
If I'd only known then what I know now....I would've eaten a lot more duck.
