The Tarrant County Libertarian Party Flyer

My friend Shaun McAlister, of DFW/NORML fame, has a day job doing media work.

The Tarrant County Libertarian Party wanted a brochure, something we could hand out at events, debates, schools and such.  We gave Shaun a few bullet-points, some logos, and some Facebook pages where he could look for pics.
Lord have mercy, look what the boy came up with!!  I'm proud of this thing.

If you ever need some freelance media work done - print, video, or internet - Shaun is THE man.  End of story.

Mike Coyne and I shamelessly ripped off the subject headings from the National and State LP sites.  The individual bullet-points are standard Mike Coyne rants and Whited Sepulchre blog entries.

Can you imagine what a Republican or Democrat flyer of this type would read like?  Democrats having to justify a horrific economy, multiple wars, drones, invasions of privacy, failure-factory schools and enough black men in prison to fill up 20 Super Bowls?  Republicans trying to justify the military-industrial B.S., the War On Drugs, subsidies, tax exemptions for buddies, and a desire to take over your bed, bong, babies and bourbon?

I love, love, love me some Libertarian party.

Bootleggers and Baptists at the Super Bowl

This was the most inspiring commercial of yesterday's Super Bowl.  It shows Budweiser heroically overcoming the nanny state, bringing the people the Budweiser that they deserve.

This is a link to a site showing how much money Budweiser has given to "Partnership For A Drug Free America", the liquor lobby's anti-marijuana political action committee.  They spend most of their time lobbying for marijuana prohibition.

Here's a video of a guy discussing how it all works.

Hit the "Bootleggers And Baptists" Post Label below for more info on the concept.
(Budweiser sells a vice.  They are the bootleggers.  "Partnership For A Drug Free America" represents the Baptists.  Both sides need each other for support and funding.)

A letter to my unborn grandchildren about ObamaCare ®.

To my grandchildren, who probably won't be born until around the year 2020,

By the time you're old enough to care anything about reading this, I'll probably be dead.  Please come see me at Greenwood Cemetery in Fort Worth, Texas.  If things go as planned I won't be in a grave, but in a Sepulchre - ideally, a very white one.

There's a kid named Josh Ritter whose music I really like.  If he's still alive and still making music, could you please drop by and play some of his new CD's in the cemetery for me?  Or his MP3's?  Or 8-tracks?  Or whatever people are now using to play music?  It doesn't matter.

The reason I'm leaving you this message is that I want you to understand how good we had it in the U.S. in the year 2011.    I'm afraid that my generations is not going to leave you very much to work with.  (This is off-topic, but on behalf of my generation, I apologize for leaving you with that massive national debt.  I hope your Chinese creditors are going easy on you, and allowing you to work it off on the weekends.)

Back to my point....Several months ago, the U.S. government passed a set of regulations that we're calling ObamaCare ®.   Our previous system had its faults, among which were over-regulation, insurance not being allowed to cross state lines, and excessive credentialing.  But people came here from all over the world for medical treatment.

During this same time period (I'm writing this in June of 2011, and I have no idea what kind of device you'll be using to read this in 2035),  England's socialized medical system had a goal of getting people into their emergency rooms in four hours.  That's four hours from the time a patient showed up until they were admitted, transferred, died, or were discharged.  Yeah, people died outside while waiting to be admitted to National Health Service hospitals.  The British government had a goal of treating all patients in 18 weeks.  (To us, this is a ridiculously long period of time.)  One British guy that I've corresponded with a few times has started something called the National Death Service blog.

For reasons that I still don't understand, we decided to imitate the British system.  Once again, on behalf of my generation, I apologize.

Just so you'll believe these things once existed, here are some pictures of billboards advertising the emergency room services of American hospitals in the Year Of Our Lord 2011.  Our 2011 hospitals actually bragged about their short waiting times !!   At the time this picture was taken (using a primitive device we called a camera), the waiting time at this hospital's emergency room was 13 minutes.

Think of how long you now have to wait and wait and wait to see the government-approved doctor for your zip code.  Compare that agony to this:

Don't you wish that your U.S. Government hospitals still had to compete for your business?

I hope you kids are doing well, and are staying healthy, and don't need hospitals.

Once again, sorry about that national debt.  I bitched and moaned about it online and tried to get people to vote Libertarian.  It was the best I could do.

There was another guy named John Prine whose music I really liked.  If you could find his CD called "Bruised Orange" and play it outside my sepulchre, I'd appreciate it.

I wish I could see you now,

Your Grandfather

***************

I don't know if these links will work in the year 2035, but the billboard pictures came from here and here and here and here and here

Here's John Prine doing "That's The Way The World Goes Round" from that "Bruised Orange" CD.  I really liked this song.

Barack Obama's first campaign ad of the 2012 election

The Republican faction of Big Gubmint believe that they're due for another turn in the White House. Here's their first attack ad.

Given the same budget, I think I could've done a better job than this. But then, no network would run it because it would scare the children.
This thing needs some Cash For Clunkers references, some Gitmo photos, some warrantless surveillance quotes, video of a police raid on a medical marijuana dispensary, and maybe some footage of Tomahawk missiles being recyled over Libya.

Fauxbama crushed by a giant fish sandwich

From Vanity Fair, via Althouse, via Instapundit comes the KFC Commercial that they don't want you to ever see again.
Two of my China trips were spent in a high rise apartment building over a KFC.  They love that stuff over there, and spend major amounts of Yuen getting kids into the restaurants.  Every 30 minutes or so, some militant marketing music comes over the speakers and the cashiers and cooks come out from behind the counters with KFC crowns for all the Little Emperors and they go through a five minute dance/aerobic routine centered around the glory of fried chicken.
Lordy, I love that country.

Anyway, here's the offending video.  If you're offended by the idea of a Fauxbama getting slammed by a giant fish sandwich, don't watch.

What If ?

From John Jay Myers, Libertarian candidate for U.S. Congress, 32nd District, Texas:

What if we were not all fighting constantly about what we wanted from government?

What if we understood it is not the role of government to pass out favors or be involved in business, or to “create jobs”?

What if we didn’t have to tirelessly keep track of our politicians, trying to find out what crazy thing they are doing now?

What if we understood that governments role is to protect our life, liberty and property?

What if we knew that wars always end poorly whether they be wars on terror, drugs, poverty, or about education?

What if we knew that people should be able to do what they want with their lives as long as they don’t harm other people?

What if we were shown that the freer the society the more prosperous the whole of the people, time and time again?

What if we lived in a more libertarian society?

When you pull the switch tomorrow, please vote Libertarian !!!

The Global Warming Cult has plans for those who will not submit to The New World Order

If you don't cut your carbon emissions by 10%, the followers of Saint Albert, The Goracle Of Music City, are going to splatter your guts all over the office.
There's going to be nothing left of you but a greasy spot.

That's the message of this video, and it is not a parody.  It's a fantasy.
What you're about to see was produced by a group called 10:10, who want everyone to reduce their carbon emissions by 10%.  Or else.
There's a link at the bottom of this post where you can read 10:10's apology to the environmental movement for pulling back the curtain too far.  Hell, we've now seen behind the curtain, the man behind the curtain, his underwear, his hernia scar, and that tattoo he got during that wild trip to New Orleans.
Goodgodalmighty, they should also apologize to their mothers, their children, and everyone who knows them.

Don't they know that in the last century, governments killed 200 million of their own citizens?

Here's Ed Morrissey on what you're about to see:

What makes this fascinating is that the people who produce this dreck have no clue as to just how far removed they have become from normal human sensibilities, or at least they didn’t until the video began provoking the fully-predictable reaction. They have become so wrapped up in Gaia that they seem to have little connection to humanity.

(Go here if you want to learn more about the mindset of the lady with the sign.  It's a subject for another day.)

The most alarming part of the video?  To me it is when the office workers slowly start raising their hands, looking around to see if everyone else is raising theirs.  They look like they don't agree with what is being asked of them, but they are afraid to express anything except mindless conformity.

Otherwise, you see, the nice man might hit his red button.  Get in line, you mindless sheep.  Start goose-stepping.  You see, there's No Pressure.

Ok, enough ranting.  Here's the video.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday.  I'm going to dispatch 6 semi-tractor drivers and have them ride around Fort Worth all day, just for the hell of it.
I'm turning on every light in the damn house.
The contents of my city-mandated recycling bin are going into the regular garbage.
I'm breaking every CFL ObamaBulb I can find, and dumping the mercury into the sewers.
In a few minutes, people in Abbot, Texas, will be able to hear Lynyrd Skynyrd's One More From The Road blasting forth from my stereo, Limey Nanny-Staters with red buttons be damned.

Go here to read an apology from the producers of this mess.
Go here to see Audi's "Green Police" ad, just in case you've forgotten about it.  You see, this was not a fluke.  The authoritarians among us really do believe that this imagery is appealing.

Public Education Billboard Of The Day

From HolyCoast.com:

NOT a Photoshop.

The Libertarian TV ad we've all been waiting for !

This is the Libertarian political ad we've all been waiting for.

We just need more money to get it on television more often.

John Jay Myers is running for Congress against Pete "Bailout" Sessions Texas 32nd District.  Here's part of the press release:

The Libertarian campaign for John Jay Myers is releasing a very professional TV ad next week, which highlights the need to end the two party mindset. The video was actually created in the spare time of two Republicans, (one a Precinct Chair) furthering the idea that it is principle over party.

“I honestly believe in principle over party, every Republican that wants to end the wars, bring our troops home, and end the nanny state would get my support.  And both of them (the Republicans) that believe that do.” says Myers.

Myers is in an uphill battle against Pete Sessions the RNCC chair who has raised over $1 million dollars for his race.  Recognizing the odds, Myers jokingly said “There is a slim, very slim chance that I may NOT win this election” but went on to say “What matters is that I am right, and  I am giving people the opportunity to do what is right”.

Myers likes to point out that the Democrat and the Republican are actually very similar.  “Both Pete Sessions and Grier Raggio are the same.  They both want to continue our foreign policy which costs over a trillion a year, they both believe in socialised medicine, and they both believe in bail outs and stimulus.”

For more information about the campaign see:

Suggestion for an October political ad

Here's an idea for a great Libertarian political ad for October.
The text is from The Boston Globe's Jeff Jacoby, on the Cash For Clunkers travesty.

IN THE market for a used car? Good luck finding a bargain: The price of “pre-owned’’ vehicles has climbed considerably over the past year. According to Edmunds.com, a website for car buyers, a three-year-old automobile today will set you back, on average, close to $20,000 — a spike of more than 10 percent since last summer. For some popular models, the increase has been much steeper. In July, a used Cadillac Escalade was going for around $35,000, or nearly 36 percent over last July’s price.

Hit the video.  Seriously.  Hit the video of these guys pumping Sodium Silicate into the engine of a Volvo, under orders from our President.  You don't have to watch, just listen while you read the rest.
Now, back to our commentary from Mr. Jacoby.

....Part of the answer is that the supply of used cars is artificially low, because your Uncle Sam decided last year to destroy hundreds of thousands of perfectly good automobiles as part of its hare-brained Car Allowance Rebate System — or, as most of us called it, Cash for Clunkers. That was the program under which the government paid consumers up to $4,500 when they traded in an old car and bought a new one with better gas mileage. The traded-in cars — which had to be in drivable condition to qualify for the rebate — were then demolished: Dealers were required to chemically wreck each car’s engine, and send the car to be crushed or shredded.

Crank up the volume on the video.  Hear the whine?  Does it sound like vandals destroying a car?  Destroying the economy?  Destroying employment?  DO YOU HEAR THE NOISE OF BARACKAGANDAN LUNACY?????
Congress and the Obama administration trumpeted Cash for Clunkers as a triumph — the president pronounced it “successful beyond anybody’s imagination.’’ Which it was, if you define success as getting people to take “free’’ money to make a purchase most of them are going to make anyway, while simultaneously wiping out productive assets that could provide value to many other consumers for years to come. By any rational standard, however, this program was sheer folly.

Briefly cut away to a clip of some obviously low-income people wandering through a used car lot.  Then go back to the shrieking Volvo.

Of the 700,000 cars purchased during the clunkers frenzy, the estimated net increase in sales was only 125,000. Each incremental sale thus ended up costing the taxpayers a profligate $24,000.

Show a Cash For Clunkers-era clip of some Yuppies driving a new Prius out of a parking lot.  Be sure they've transferred their Obama bumpersticker from the Clunker to the Prius.  Then go back to the whining Volvo.

Even on environmental grounds, Cash for Clunkers was an exorbitant dud. Researchers at the University of California-Davis calculated that the reduction of carbon dioxide attributable to the program cost no less than $237 per ton. In contrast, carbon emissions credits cost about $20 per ton in international markets.

The whole carbon credits scam is environmentalist bullshit, but some people believe in it.  Kinda like Catholics used to believe in purchasing Indulgences.  Let it stay in the ad.

Using Department of Transportation figures, the Associated Press calculated that replacing inefficient clunkers with new cars getting higher mileage would reduce CO2 emissions by around 700,000 tons a year — less than Americans emit in a single hour. Likewise, the projected reduction in gasoline use amounted to about as much as Americans go through in 4 hours. (And that’s only if you assume — contrary to historical experience — that fuel consumption decreases when fuel efficiency rises.)

When all is said and done, Cash for Clunkers was a deplorable exercise in budgetary wastefulness, asset destruction, environmental irrelevance, and economic idiocy. Other than that, it was a screaming success.

Cut to the 3:55 mark on the video.  Watch the guy with the fire extinguisher.  Listen to the vandals giggle.  Cut to a graph of declining employment.  Cut to a quick graph of declining home sales.  Cut to a quick graph of increased automobile prices.  Then go to one more voiceover.

Do you really want to send the people who did this back to Washington?
My name is The Whited Sepulchre, and I approved this message.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram - now the size of a 1970's advertising insert

From The Fort Worth Star-Telegram.    I've put the only words that matter in bold print:

The version of the Star-Telegram published Monday represents months of work and millions of dollars spent to improve the legibility of the paper. In addition to a new design for our pages, we're completing one of the biggest press upgrades in our history.

To make it easier to find your favorite sections, we've color-coded them: The local section is red, Sports is blue, Work & Money is green, and Your Life is orange. We've also used blue on the front page to highlight the Star-Telegram name.

Classified sections are teal and have been completely redesigned with larger type and an easier-to-read format that includes wider columns.

The new typeface we have chosen for articles is the same size as what we've been using, but it prints larger. The typeface, called Quiosco, was specially designed to improve readability on narrower pages.

Our new design will also improve legibility by reducing the practice of putting small type on gray or color backgrounds.

To improve our reproduction, the Star-Telegram is upgrading the presses, replacing much of the equipment that we've used for more than a decade.

We're also switching to a higher grade of newsprint. Although there may be a short breaking-in process, the visual result should be readily apparent to our readers in the next several weeks.

Because the printed page is more compact -- and easier to handle as a result -- we've had to move some comics, daily features and puzzles to maintain their size.

Go here to see what the front page looks like now.  It's kind of a milder USA Today.

There isn't as much of it, but they're giving it their best shot.  The Tim Madigan/Ron Ennis series on local neurosurgeon Dave Donahue is one of the best I've read in a while.

Maybe the Star-Telegram will make it.  Hope so.  Sometimes you have to cut back before you can grow.

Mommy, make the bad men go away !

I found this on the Tom Lewis Blog:

I don't know who Len Britton is, but if he's wins the election I bet he lasts about two months before he starts trying to save and create jobs, earmarking, voting to go overseas and blow shit up, subsidizing, and empire-building.  He is, after all, a Republican.
Funny ad, though.

PANIC PANIC PANIC PANIC

PANIC !  PANIC !  PANIC !
ABOUT A MONTH AGO, I "MONETIZED" THIS WEBSITE, MEANING THAT I ALLOWED GOOGLE TO POST SOME ADS HERE.
THIS MEANS THAT EVERY MONTH I'LL MAKE ENOUGH MONEY TO BUY COFFEE FOR ONE DAY.
I SWEAR ON A STACK OF BIBLES (KING JAMES VERSION) THAT I HAVE NO CONTROL OVER WHAT ADS APPEAR HERE.
THE AD THAT JUST CAME UP ON YOUR RIGHT, AS OF SATURDAY, APRIL 3RD, WAS AN AD WITH AN EAGLE ON TOP, INVITING READERS TO "LEARN HOW TO JOIN THE REPUBLICAN NATIONAL COMMITTEE".

DO NOT HIT THAT AD.  DON'T DO IT.
UNTIL THE CURRENT MESSIAH TOOK POWER, REPUBLICANS SPENT MORE THAN DEMOCRATS.

DO NOT CLICK ON THAT AD.
YOUR COMPUTER WILL GET VIRUSES AND YOU'LL BE SPAMMED THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
YOUR COMPUTER WILL BE REGISTERED IN A FEDERAL DATABASE OF PEDOPHILES.

Plus, Republicans are not going to repeal Obamacare.

I apologize for that offensive advertisement on this otherwise charming website.

Buy an Audi, and be more enlightened than your neighbors

Of all the ads ever written to take advantage of human ignorance, this is one of the worst. I first saw it during the Super Bowl. When the "green" Audi appeared, I threw party mix, beer cans and dachshunds at the screen until the rage subsided.

There are NO green cars. There are NO green manufacturing processes. Manufacturing Audis eliminates entire counties' worth of the symbolic gestures advocated in this ad.

There is only one green form of transportation, only one that leaves no carbon footprint. That's to dispatch yourself to your eternal reward in the next life. Your remains will still release carbon for a couple of decades, but then it will slow down.

Then there's walking. Or riding a bicycle.

Driving anything, anything at all, for a short period of time, is enough to negate all of your other "green" rituals. I'm not saying that we should stop recycling, or stop caring about the environment.

I'm saying that if you think you're accomplishing something worthwhile by driving an Audi, as opposed to something driven by the unenlightened Proles, you're mistaken.

This was a vile ad. The presence of the Gore Police made it even more so.

God, I hated this ad.

Two political ads. One of them will live forever as an example of weird

Here's a cool political ad, done The Chicago Way. I really like the Godfather typeface. Tony Rezko, Obama's old running buddy, gets a few shout-outs and its funny how the admakers can assume that their audience will know who Rezko is. Found it on Ed Driscoll's blog.

Here's another one that just might be the 2nd most bizarre thing I've ever seen that took major bucks to produce. Watch a little of the intro. It quickly becomes tiresome. Then go to the 2:10 mark. The special effects make Dark Shadows look like Avatar. Maybe that was the point. Sheesh.

These will only get better as election day approaches. Pass the popcorn ! !

Update from 15 minutes later: Mr. Reynolds at Instapundit just posted Hitler's response to the Demonsheep ad.

He also had a link to this one about the comical reasons we should let the government begin a Cap and Trade system....

Will the Superbowl ads compare with this? I think not.

Say No To Government Motors

Parodies like this one have been around since the early days of the bailouts.

But I always wondered when legit marketing efforts would appear.
Go here for details.

Don't your customers need a Yugo ??

For my Serbian friend Igor :

Here's a 1988 sales video extolling the mighty and numerous selling points of the Yugo, such as the 1.1-liter engine that roared with 54 horsepower at 5,000 rpm, the 19.5-second quarter-mile time "ensuring safe access to major highways," and "no expensive computer chips to diagnose or replace.

Yes, the Yugo. It can do the quarter in 19.5 seconds. I think Secretariat could do the quarter in 19.5 seconds. Ah, the glories of Socialist auto manufacturing ! !

A fresh coat of Whitening to Autoblog for resurrecting this one.
