It's Allright Ma (I'm Only Lying....)

Here's a little more info on the panic that the National Transportation Safety Board is trying to create over talking, texting and driving.  Go here.

For those who don't have time to hit the link, here's a summary:

They lied.

(Perhaps they used the numbers that had been adjusted for Urban Heat Island Effects, El Ninos, Spatial Autocorrelation, etc.)

Here's a totally unrelated video.  I just like it.

The link goes to a blog.
Wow.
What were the chances of that happening?

Perhaps they used the numbers that had been adjusted for Urban Heat Island Effects, El Ninos, Spatial Autocorrelation, etc.

Yep, the conspiracy gets deeper and bigger every day.

Thanks, Allen, for linking us to blogs...

Yep.
Blogs.

...QUOTED STATISTICS from the NTSB...

That you don't bother to fact-check for yourselves. It doesn't even occur to you.

Oh Lord, here we go again...

What is wrong with you?
Seriously, why are you content to do nothing except read some blog?

They have their own official website. Why can't you just read it for yourself with your own eyes?

I'm glad I don't live in a country where people let their government do all their thinking for them, like North Korea.

Gee, Nick, do you really think government agencies would publish misleading statistics just for their own benefit?

That sounds like you believe in a conspiracy that "gets deeper and bigger every day."

I work for the government Tim. You could say I'm a scientist. I am part of the machine that gathers information, packages it, gathers documentation and suffers through arduous editing and vetting, only to have the people upstairs say whatever the Hell they want to say that is politically correct and serves the agency's interests. Most people I know in government are well intentioned and diligent, but if anyone thinks we aren't self-interested, he is delusional.

I've worked for and with government for 25 years, and I have seen my fair share of wanton disregard of facts, laws, and of duty. It can take years to clear up simple administrative errors if they ever get fixed. "Good enough for government work," isn't an unfair jab.

And pray you never have to take government to court! The waiver of sovereign immunity is like the insurance policy that doesn't cover anything that is likely to happen.

Government bureaucracy is like a black hole for citizen interests. The appearance of doing things is prized over actually doing things. Why, I could write a book about the failures of military and VA medical care just from my own experiences. Admin and finance errors would take another book. Taxes, another book.

I heard a story, perhaps apocryphal, that a head of the US Patent Office at the beginning of the 20th century recommended his office be shut down because "everything that could be invented had been invented." That guy gets an F for imagination, but an A+ for serving the American people.

It is unthinkable that any government agency would ever utter a word that suggested it was ineffective much less defective, unnecessary, or counterproductive.

Failed kings will abdicate. Dishonored samurai will commit seppuku. Washed up athletes will retire. Old soldiers will fade away. But no government agency or program or bureaucrat ever sees the value of ending its own existence. There's nothing as permanent as a temporary government measure.

Calvin Klein doesn't get this. He is programmed to eat the corn out of government shit. The more ten-letter words government or academia uses, the more ass corn he begs for. And he doesn't even have the refined taste to comment on the quality of the fecal feast.

Government excretes it, he eats it.

Just mindless defense of a product the process of which he doesn't see, doesn't question, and doesn't understand.

One would think that the long list of known government agency errors would give a reasonable person even a moment of pause.

He's truly, utterly, pathetic. Sheeple.

Baaaah. Four letter acronym gooooood. Blogs written by scholars, researchers, and duly diligent citizens baaaaad.

He's probably crying over the corpse of Kim Jong Il right now, saying we shall never again see 11 holes in one and a 38 under par! As I understand it, a NASA satellite captured the phenomenal feat of athleticism.

How would you find out?
Unless you fact check, you have no idea.
Conspiracy theories are just kooky conspiracy theories. They don't magically translate into evidence all by themselves.

One would think that the long list of known government agency errors...

You are creating a strawman because your position is fatally weak.

Any agency can make a mistake.
Duh!
Yet unless you know how to spot such a mistake you are just being gullible.

You have no skeptical methodology.
You are being led by the nose.

He is programmed to eat the corn out of government shit.

How does exhorting people to fact-check and use primary sources translate into eating the corn out of government shit?

He's truly, utterly, pathetic. Sheeple.

Yeah, right. It's "pathetic" to fact-check and use primary sources of information.
It's also "quibbling".

He's probably crying over the corpse of Kim Jong Il...

That's all you've got.
That is how weak you are.

You are being led be the nose.
You are not a skeptic - you are a sucker.

Cedric,
Here's what you're missing.
Our government lies a lot.
We don't trust them.
We don't believe them.
It really is that simple.

This explains your reliance on blogs?
No.
Blogs can lie too.

It's really easy for some guy with a pretty blog telling you what you already know to lie to you. It's not even illegal or anything. A person can lie outrageously on their blog and get away with it.

We don't trust them.

I don't ask you to "trust" anybody.
I ask you to fact check.
I ask you to verify.
Big difference.

We don't believe them.

Skepticism is a process, not a position.
You uncritially believe blogs.
You don't look at their source material-if any.
