On Chick-Fil-A and chickens

It seems like the internet, the Tweetosphere, Facebook, and the pitiful remnants of the print media are all a-clucking about Chick-Fil-A.
Dan Cathy, Chick-Fil-A's CEO, in addition to supporting some anti-gay and lesbian organizations, made the following comments to the Baptist Press:
Some have opposed the company's support of the traditional family. "Well, guilty as charged," said Cathy when asked about the company's position.

"We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.

"We operate as a family business ... our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that," Cathy emphasized.
Blah, Blah, Blah, blah, and blah.  If Dan Cathy wants to give money to a group called Gods And Ghosts and Goblins Against Gays, that's his business. If customers want to avoid his business because of it, more power to them.  That's their business, right?

Here's what I don't understand.....How is it that the Leftosphere is going totally batshit against a Chicken Restaurant for their anti-gay stance WHEN THAT IS THE EXACT SAME POLICY HELD BY BARACK FREAKIN' OBAMA TWO MONTHS AGO ?????

Where was the outrage?  Why didn't lefties, liberals and the rest of the Great Herd Of Independent Minds decide to boycott the Democrat Party?  Why were the Libertarians the only ones standing up for Gay/Lesbian equality???

Hell's Bells, I'm a freakin' Shipping Manager and Freight Broker.  But I had balls enough to publish this in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram back when Barack Obama was still "evolving".
Was it easy? No.
Did I take a lot of crap because of it?  Yes.
So why couldn't The Teleprompter Jesus do the same thing until the day after North Carolina voted on their anti-gay/lesbian marriage referendum?

It's because he's a physical and moral coward.  (Hit that link.  He flip-flops around like a catfish on the lake bank.)

Barack Obama is a chicken.

Here's the LP candidate for President, Gary Johnson:
"I think I do better than Obama on civil liberties, I think I crush him when it comes to dollars and cents," Johnson said. "I think I do a lot bettrer than Romney on dollars and cents but I think I crush him on civil liberties."

Asked if he was the best candidate on gay marriage, Johnson said "There's no question unabashedly let's have marriage equality now, gay rights are constitutionally guaranteed."

A Johnson presidency would ensure a "libertarian president who's going to challenge Democrats to fix things when it comes to civil liberties and then get a libertarian president who's going to challenge the Republicans on dollars and cents, something they're horrible on."
End of rant.
The picture of our president in a chicken suit came from here.

The Pipe Creek Junction Cafe - Go There. Eat Catfish.

After searching since Christmas of 1983, I have found it.
It's only 300 miles from my home in Fort Worth; therefore I shall return.

I have found a Texas restaurant with good catfish. It's called the Pipe Creek Junction Cafe. (9878 Highway 16 South, Pipe Creek, TX 78063 830-535-6767)

As a Mississippian, I was spoiled from an early age. People there know how to catch (or raise), clean, fillet, cook, and serve catfish.
In Texas, I think they confuse catfish with ground beef. Or Armadillos.

Don't tell me about yer "Catfish and Company" in North Richland Hills. It's not even close. Hold those fillets up before they're battered, and I bet you could read a newspaper through them.
Don't bring up the old Bill Martin's places that used to be just outside Tarrant County, where I think they served Mud Cats in Hush Puppy batter.
And for the love of all things holy, don't suggest the industrialized, freeze-dried mess they bounce off the platters at Long John Silver's. I once took some LJS leftovers home to the dachshunds, and they ate the stuff. But they licked their rear ends for 30 minutes trying to get the taste out of their mouths.

The Pipe Creek Junction Cafe does catfish right. The batter isn't too thick and isn't over-spiced. The fillets are thick, and are composed of an actual 1/2 catfish. (Restaurants and wholesalers screw up when they try to slice these sections in half, giving some customers the false impression that they're eating more fish. Actually, it just doubles the batter and no one is fooled except Yankees and people from Dallas.)

The go-withs at Pipe Creek are good (although it's hard to screw up corn on the cob and a baked potato). The staff seems to be all high school kids, and they leave you alone and let you read in peace while you eat. Refills on the all-you-can-eat catfish arrived promptly.

I don't think anything I ate came from a can, or spent time in a microwave, or had time to dwell under a heat lamp.

Great stuff. I'll be eating here again on my way home. It's on Highway 16 between Helotes and Bandera. The quest for good Texas catfish is over !

Now I have to find someplace other than Red, Hot & Blues with decent pork barbeque.

An Awkward Conversation With The National Maitre D'

Excuse me, sir.... May I have a word with you in private? This will only take a moment.
Did you enjoy your Sesame-crusted Tarp? Truly an excellent choice, and one of my favorites.

I apologize for taking you away from your guests. They seem to be having a grand time.

Shortly after some members of your party, Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney I believe, ordered the first round of blackened stimuli garnished with hand-foraged collards for $152 billion, I took the liberty of running your card through our system, strictly as a matter of policy.
Your card was declined, but you've been such a good customer for so many years, I assumed that our computer was at fault.

So when your guests ordered the bottomless housing appetizer package of possum medallions with juice au jus drizzled over pulverized McCain nuts for $345 billion, the card was once again declined.
I'm told that you are over your limit.

In the meantime, to avoid any embarrassment, the staff agreed to bring Mr. Paulson his Wall Street bailout of dehydrated mineral water de Pelosi (with a bearish overtone and a hint of knotty pine) at $700 billion. We ran your credit card through our system once again, and I apologize for mentioning this, but I must now ask if you have any other means of payment.

You see, Mr. Geithner just ordered a newly-minted Federal Reserve guarantee d'fault (from Peking) for $4 trillion and, to be frank, Mr. Geithner is well known for avoiding his share of payments. May I be so bold as to suggest a separate check for Mr. Geithner?

Mr. Obama's behavior has been puzzling. On Thursday night he called in his order for a pork-stuffed stimulus with 8,600 sesame infused earmarks and insisted on a small partial delivery to your table by Friday.

He insisted that no one be allowed to read his order prior to delivery.

We don't understand the need for such haste when the majority of his entree won't be delivered until 2010 and 2011. Pork-stuffed stimulus often goes bad between election cycles, and our menu clearly states that we cannot be responsible for the appearance of this entree in the cold, harsh, light of day.

Is it possible for you to pay cash? Or should I bring everyone an individual check?

Fort Worth Hole In The Wall

This is why I love Fort Worth, the Internet, and being alive in this century.

A local blogger has a site called "Fort Worth Hole In The Wall". All this guy does is review Cowtown restaurants. (I assume it's a guy. Very few women can eat as much as this person.)

Friends and co-workers, save the link to your favorites. Let me know where you want to eat lunch.

Read all the comment fields.

There are lots of eaters in Fort Worth who are passionate about their groceries.

Note to Mr. Hole In The Wall: Please review the Cancun Mexico restaurant in the 7400 block of Camp Bowie. Dollar for dollar, I think it's some of the best in Fort Worth.
And you did a great job of defending La Playa Maya.
The crust on Mama's pizza is too thick, but your description was so dang appetizing I might eat lunch there tomorrow.
I've had burgers at Fred's that were so rare the bun was bloody.

Note to British Libertarian friends: I've only been to England once, and boy was your food bland.
